Welcome to St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind
A nonprofit organization serving the Pittsburgh region since 1957. St. Lucy’s Auxiliary strives to introduce young women to the benefits of volunteering and inspire a lifelong passion for giving to others.
Through the St. Lucy’s Junior Medallion program, we guide young women to complete more than 150 hours of community service, culminating in their recognition at The Medallion Ball. Through the process, we support them with reflections, fellowship and events to develop connections and build lifelong friendships.

The Junior Medallion Program supports young women in their desire to become impactful volunteers from 8th grade through high school.

Medallion Candidacy
To be a Medallion Candidate, a young lady must be of recognized spiritual and moral character and have completed at least 150 hours of volunteer service.

The Medallion Ball
The Medallion Ball celebrates and honors the young ladies who have completed the Junior Medallion Program. They are awarded the Joan of Arc Medallion.

St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind fosters a lifelong spirit of service among women and their families in the Pittsburgh region. For more than six decades, we have encouraged young women to discover the joy of serving others through acts of compassion and generosity. Guided by faith, friendship, and the example of St. Lucy, our community continues to bring light and hope to those in need.

How do I become a member?
Our membership is open to women who support our mission of inspiring young women to a lifelong commitment to volunteer service and raising funds to support the visually impaired.
To join, simply sign up online, submit the $50 annual membership fee, and start enjoying our events, meetings, and service opportunities. We look forward to welcoming you!
Who benefits from St. Lucy’s?
By supporting St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind, you help make a difference in two meaningful ways. Young women benefit by developing a lifelong commitment to volunteer service, gaining skills, friendships, and valuable experiences. At the same time, the visually impaired in the Pittsburgh area benefit from the funds and programs we raise through our events and activities.
What is the Medallion Ball?
The Medallion Ball is held to honor young women in their senior year of high school for their dedication to volunteer service. Sponsored annually by St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind, the event also serves as a fundraiser to support programs and services for the visually impaired in the Pittsburgh area.

Carissa Arbogast volunteered at Upward Sports.
Through her volunteering, she learned how open children are to learning about Jesus.

Luci Carvelli volunteered on the Glowland Project.
Over the holiday season, she helped to put on a two-week community celebration for kids in Oakland. By volunteering, she learned how great it is to see kids enjoy time with their families at fun holiday gatherings.

Mary Margaret O'Connell volunteered at the Knights of Columbus in Natrona, PA.
Every month the Knights host a pancake breakfast. Mary's job at the Pancake breakfast is to take the orders to the kitchen. This allows the kitchen to have just-in-time service. Through volunteering, Mary has learned to be kind to others. Some of her regular customers come to the breakfast just to see her smiling face! She loves making people smile.

Caroline Leland, Nancy and Katherine Freyvogel volunteered at the Friends of Mellon Park Arbor Day Celebration.
Through volunteering, they learned that taking care of the Earth and joining a community are the small and necessary steps to bettering the world.

Brynne Huffmyer volunteered at the Mustard Seed Communities in Kingston, Jamaica.
She learned to live in the moment, appreciate the little things, and thank God for everything.

Lily McLaughlin volunteered on the St. Joseph’s Appalachia Service Trip.
While on this trip, she realized how fulfilling it was to contribute to something larger than herself. This allowed her to appreciate the impact of community service on her growth.

Zehra Ozkaya shared her time with St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral helping them prepare for the Church Festival.
She discovered that even thirty minutes of time is appreciated by so many others.

Emma Callahan spent her time at the Cooper-Siegel Community Library.
She now understands that helping children – both in their library activities and reading – is so gratifying. Plus, she appreciated sharing her love of reading with the children.
